hi, i am new to this group. I thought there was probably a support group out there and found you guys. I dont have my pacemaker yet, i was told i need one, my bpm is around 45 resting and i have bradycaria as a result of sick sinus syndrome i am told. my hearts electrical pulses not talking to each other so nice. after meeting with tmy primary care PH and my cadiologist and consulting with my mom (retired nurse who also has a pacemaker for the same reason) i have agreed that i need one. i am a bit scared to get one and dont know exactly what to expect, but i know i need it, and i will share more as time goes along. i just wanted to find a place to talk to others with the same situation and learn more about this new thing, and in case your wondering,, i like the idea of naming my device, not sure what it will be yet as i dont have it, but i will be having a big coming out party... lol... looking forward to chatting with you all... my name is chuck... peace out...

thank you... i think i am so hyper-focused on my heart right now thinking if there is something wrong, or a flutter, and whats that? and i then get anxiety about the whole thing and probably cause more palpitations or flutters.... i am hopeful when i get the PM these things will be reduced or go away and i can eventually not be so focused on what my heart's doing 24 hrs a day... i'm ready for normal... thank you again....
You Will Get There

With any luck your surgery, recovery and adjustment to life with a pacemaker will go without a hitch, and you will get to where you can live a normal life without having to think about your heart much at all.
I'm there, just passed my first anniversary (June 12) of my pacemaker implantation, and it's improved my life greatly (sick sinus syndrome here with tachy-brady)
I'd thought it might be fun to name my pacemaker but hadn't up to now as I felt as though I wasn't on such familiar terms with the thing. But we've become well acquainted in the last year, and since it'll be a lifetime companion for me, I've decided to name it "Millie". It's last name would have to be "Voltz".
Good luck to you, Mary
Listen to your mother

A pacemaker really isn't a big deal. Your mother went through it and can tell you how insignificant the surgery really is (for the vast majority). If you need it, you need it. You'll look back and wonder what your big worry was all about, particularly since you're feeling so much better. Your mother already knows this.
a new day coming

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
Welcome newbie

Welcome to the club you didn't want to join.
Most of us with pacemakers go on to lead "normal" lives. The pacemaker is a help and not a hindrance.
Hope your implant goes well and you adjust quickly to your new life.
