Infection after SCC removal

I’ve had my pacemaker for three years and all is going well.

i’ve recently had an SCC removed from my leg and have developed a little infection in the wound.

My concern is this:  is there a likelihood of an infection travelling to the pacemaker?

That's a question for your doctor. I wouldn't think a small infection would be an issue, but you'll want to aggressively get it under control regardless.

Hello Abbie,

As a melanoma sufferer I am very used to taking pics on my smart phone and sending to my skin consultant if I am in any way concerned about a lesion.

I agree with Tracey_E, you need an opinion from your doctor on this one.  My main concern with SCC, apart from the small infection you mention, would be whether the original lesion has been "completely and safely" removed and whether there are any visible signs of any spread from the original area to say nearby leg nodes?  Only your doctor can tell you this and reassure you on this point.

As far as your pacemaker is concerned, the sooner you get your SCC lesion checked the sooner you can start treatment to clear any infection, if present, and avoid any systemic spread.

Good luck and try not to worry.

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
