I am interested in what others have done about wearing a bra right after surgery?

I have a Medtronic Pacemaker with Defibrillation due to CHF.

Didn't wear one for a few weeks

I have heavy breasts, but don't wear a bra around the house (or anytime I don't have to!).  After the PM implant, I'd wear a loose, concealing outfit, and/or a tight fitting tank top under a shirt or blouse for work for a while until I was comfortable wearing a bra.  YMMV

Strapless

For the first few weeks if I had to go out I would wear looser fitting clothing and a strapless bra if the strapless became annoying I found wearing a tighter straped bra with the left strap sitting on your shoulder just as comfortable too.

I was told not to move my left arm much anyway so I didn't find the strap sitting on my shoulder moving or bothering me at all.

Hope this helps!

Actually had the same question a week ago

Hi there!  I hear ya!  Bra's a big deal and it was the first thing I worried about after I got home--exactly a week ago today.

In the meantime, I searched for post-surgery bras and came across this sports bra model.  I got a 4-pack and they arrived yesterday.  Tried one on last night and so far, so good.  Doesn't appear to rub over my very sore and trying to heal incision but I will say, it took my husband helping me to zip it up.  I hope to get the hang of it here soon!  The price was right even if it's not the most uplifting bra out there.  For the time it'll take for me to want to wear my underwire again, these'll do.

I wear a 38D and ordered the XL size which seems to work.  I've read reviews that not every color fits the same, and I haven't tried every color on yet, but if I can get a light and a dark one out of the bunch I'm happy.  I paid $25.99 for the four, so not out much either way.

I hope this helps, I know it was my #1 concern a week ago!

Happy recovering!

Bras

Welcome to the Club.

Never had the need for a bra.

Perhaps the extra padding would have helped with the car seat belt though.

I really should have asked the wife...

Prior to surgery there is a bit of give and take in situation of the PM. I had the whole operating room changed round as I changed my mind at the last momement about having the PM on the right ( being left handed).

I'd like to add an additional comment:  I think that my incision was pulled down a bit by the weight of my breasts (with or without bra), which contributed to making my scar not so neat.  A bra at the beginning may have helped with that.  Maybe next time.

Bra after surgery

I found with wide set strap model, it really wasn't an issue. Actually wore the most comfortable bra to sleep the first week or so.

Bra after surgery and beyond

Prior to my implant in 2018 I would only where a bra during the day. But since my implant I have wore a bra 24 hours a day. I have a larger chest (D) and I feel the weight of the breast pull down on the pm. I even have to sleep holding a pillow so it doesn’t pull down.it just makes me feel comfortable and I sleep well. I had to wear a bra from the day of implant. Small sacrifice for living.

I wear the tanks with the built in shelf bra after surgery. A little support and coverage, no pressure on incisions.

Bra

Just had Biventricular ICD placed two days ago.  My breasts are large and pulling at insicion making it even more tender. I found wearing a bra all the time helped. My bra strap does not go over the incision site.
