Anyone ?

I am a baseball coach at a high school ....implanted in October.

baseball coaches like me hit thousands of fungos through out the season.

Our 2020 campaign is rapidally approaching .... tonight I was at a training facility and picked up a bat which got me wondering.

hittimg a fungo is a rotational movement .... on the left side where my PM is my bottom hand will grip the bat and the swing path will finish at full extension.

has anyone out there ever done this? Did it present a problem ?

its not something I can't not do ...so I guess I'm about to find out ???

Not me.

I was told not to do anything like playing golf for at least 6 months. I guess the swing in golf is similar to baseball.

I have been reading your posts and admire the way you have bounced back and got on with your life, but it might be sensible to leave the baseball for a couple of months,  just in case.

I'm sure you can still coach without actually swinging a bat.

Don't do it

DON'T DO IT.....no swinging, no golfing no football.

Nope

I sure as heck wouldn't do it - especially only 3 months out! It can take up to 9 months to settle into the pocket.  A baseball bat swing is a fast powerful movement, you still have deep tissues healing. I walk with forearm crutches, but am really fit and active. I just WALKED too soon with them, every step with them my pec muscles contract and guess what - my ICD "broke free" suture either tore or the muscles themselves forced it up out of the pocket and the suture holding it in place tore through the muscle. Either way, three months after having my first ICD put in (which was, by the way, a  year ago today), I had to have a pocket revision. They had to go back in, retrieve the ICD which was moving ALL around in my chest and ended up way at the bottom of my breast (Picture posted on the photo gallery on this site of the x -ray of that) and make a new pocket to put it in and triple suture it in this time. Had to start recovery - no lifting, no raising my arm for 6 weeks etc, all over again.  IT SUCKED!

Like I tell my kids, "make good choices". Swinging a bat, especially at this phase of your recovery is not a good choice and would probably set you back to square one.

Yes

I definitely need to think this through.

i feel great and 100 % normal .... Practice starts 2/24 so I will be 4 months post op.

hitting a baseball ⚾️ can be demanding .... the bottom hand or left hand is basically along for the ride through the swing path as it's the top hand that does all the work BUT there is extension and certainly lots of rotation from firing the hips.

really gotta be careful

agree

Yep, gotta be really careful. I felt 100% too and learned the hard way!

I Disagree

The day after my implant, literally the next morning, I walked 5 miles as fast as I could. I walked 5 to 7 miles a day the next 6 weeks.

I am a swimmer, age 62, and my team told me to refrain from swimming for 6 weeks and then do whatever. My six week mark was 3 days ago and the last 2 days I swam over a mile, approaching 2 and half of it was very aggressive Butterfly. I played baseball and swung a bat. Doing 30 lengths of Butterfly puts more pressure than swing a bat.

If your athlete, with good muscle tone, I say try it slowly, if it feels uncomfortable stop. If not do more the next day. My doctor said it would be very difficult to pull my leads out, or damage the security of them.

great

It's great so many newbies jump in and offer up advice to help, course it's sad they have no clue and just spread more nonsense that bears no resemblance to reality.

Stop worrying about the nonsense and listening to strangers without a clue and live.

Ok....

So what's your position concerning my question ?  I'll be 4 months post op when season cracks up .

Swinging

by AgentX86 - 2020-01-20 11:56:34

My position is that you should ask the one who knows your situation the best, your EP.  My guess is that a flat swing would be no problem.  I've heard of people being told not to golf for six months, or more, but your EP knows you best.

You know you're wired when...

Muggers want your ICD, not your wallet.

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.
