Does anyone know whether you can have the occasional drink. I glass
of wine or a part of a deer. I have read that it can set off your defibulator.
I have been without my licience since it was implanted in August and should
have it back at the end of Febuary. If I can't drink its not something that I
have to have in my life.

There is nothing about alcohol itself that would set off your ICD but your underying condition may contraindicate any alcohol. Your cardiologist (preferred) or EP would be able to advise you better than anyone here.
Alcohol

I would suggest even small amounts of alcohol may interact with certain medication, for example anticoagulation and could increase the bleeding risk. I also find that alcohol (say a small glass of red wine) increases the likelihood of triggering my AF and other arrhythmias and there is really no pleasure in that !!
Jakedog, I would have a chat with your doctors. Depending on your medication and health conditions, it may be safe for you to have the occasional glass
Having a drink

I believe the latest research is all alcohol is bad, even that infamous story of a single glass of red wine. And alcohol is specifically not "good" for those with heart conditions. That said, my own experience with alcohol is it will NOT set off my ICD and I've had a few shocks in my day all when I was not near a drink.
If you can do without alcohol then why spend the money on the stuff? The better question today is what to do about marijuana ;-)

just make sure it's part of a deer, not the whole deer!

Occasional drink

Jakedog, I had my PM put in 4 months ago. I'm not a big drinker, but an occasional drink now and then I doubt will do you any harm. I asked my doctors about it and none of them said it would affect the PM. If someone else has heard different please let me know.
