Is it true...

Hello! I read that after being diagnosed with HF that you only have about 5 years to go with your heart. Is this true? Should I be counting down for my heart transplant? I think I am in stage 3 HF. I have many health problems which are not on my side. I have had my pacemaker/defibrillator for almost 3 years now. Will this help extend the life of my heart? Any thoughts? Have a great day!

Not true...

Don't believe everything you read.  I was also diagnosed with HF....among other things.

That was 12 years ago and I am now on my second CRT-D with great improvement to my heart muscle.

A positive outlook and active participation in your healthcare is extremely important.

Don't believe everything you read

Life can change and we can't control it, particularly with heart issues.  As advised by Grateful Heart, don't believe everything you read! I was diagnosed with heart failure over a year ago for unknown reasons, and they don't know what is causing my cardiomyopathy.  Make sure you are going to a good electrophysiologist. Right now my heart failure is fairly well under control with a cocktail of drugs.  Positive thinking, taking care of yourself, keeping active socially and physically, doing things you enjoy, and following your heart dr's recommendations are imperative.  Erase the 5 years out of your mind and try to live your life!  Keep busy!  It sounds like you're off to a good start taking care of yourself!

I read that when I was first diagnosed 14  years ago. Do not dwell on it or beleive it. Exercise, eat right and be happy.

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!
