Medical alert jewellery beneficial?

There was discussion (I think) here recently about medical alert jewellery and efficacy. Unfortunately, I had the chance to test mine yesterday. I was at a restaurant with my wife and 4yo granddaughter. After the meal, just before leaving, I had what the think (still doing tests), a seizure. I remember my wife telling for the manager to call 911 and the next thing the ambulance was pulling into the hospital. One of the EMTs mentioned that my medical alert tag was extremely helpful. It gave them information that helped them greatly. I also carry an aluminum engraved wallet card ($2.00 at one of the medic alert jewellery sites) was extremely helpful. I had all my med on it and gave it to the ER staff).

Still waiting on tests to get outta the hospital. We were supposed to start home (1200mi drive) this morning - obviously not going to happen. Supposed to have an MRI today. It's tough to get the right people in on Sunday to deal with my pacemaker but I'm hoping. I'll let you all know how that goes.

Hi,

For sure I am sorry to read you have "something" going on and the bracelet worked. Then, right behind that news came "bracelet didn’t matter". I was thinking of getting two around my neck like dog tags and one around my wrist. I carry my medical information in my wallet. All 12 medications, allergies and pacemaker are printed out I carry 2 copies. Oh yeah even has my insurance info on it. BUT as AngySparrow said ".my big obvious Medical Alert Bracelet was ignored" so now I'm thinking a t-shirt. Geez I can see it now as i clutch my chest and start to fall.....no wait grab papers out of wallet and clutch in hand. Let us know how you make out I hope it's not your pacemaker.

Well, talking to my wife about it today, she had the presence of mind to shove the aluminum plate with most of the information into the EMTs hand before we left. He did comment about the dog tag. Bracelet?

Glad you're still with us

I'm glad to know that at leas in your case the medical Alert tag did what it's supposed to do.

And having a wife who is on the ball undoubtedly helped too.

I was discharged from the hospital this afternoon, with no MRI. It became pretty obvious that they really didn't want to do it, so sent me back home with orders to have it done there. It's going to be a three day drive, though, without my help. Thanks, all, for your best wishes.
