Conversion to HIS Bundle Pacing

New EP at Duke wants to convert my Dual Chamber Boston Scientific Pacemaker to HIS pacing by removng the Ventrical lead and replacing it with a HIS Bundle lead. Anyone have any experience with this?

Why would I take the risks associated with this surgery just to have the latest and "greatest"?

Latest and Great

It is not to have the latest and greatest. I have been having problems with the ventricular pacing since day one. A respected EP would not recommend this surgery with some risks if the benefits did not outway the risks.

Your problem with ventricle pacing is the same reason I consulted with an EP at Duke. Interestingly, it was my idea, not theirs, to suggest His bundle pacing as a work around for a ventricle that doesn't like to be paced.

In my case it was possible to keep the ventricle lead with some fancy programming.

But I was looking into His Bundle pacing as an option. If the fancy progamming hadn't worked--or if in the future it stops working--His bundle pacing would be plan B.

Indeed, it would be the only plan.

I'm interested in why the ventricle lead needs to be removed. I lived with mine turned off for a couple of years (at that time I didn't have AV block.)

Thanks for the link, alot of good information there.  Hoping this will finally get me back on track.

HIS BUNDLE

I have third degree heart block from an AVNRT Ablation, therefore the lead cannot be turned off and since it has been less than a year it is low risk to remove the V lead and replace it with a HIS lead.

I agree with what you are saying. I am 55 and very active, I am not sure why they did not do this from the start or atleast inform me of this, this is why I am now at Duke. Duke is a nationally ranked heart center. I have received two opinions about removing the lead, they both stated that since it is less than a year it is low risk. They do have a special team that does the lead removal.

I didn't ask why one would ever want His pacing, I asked why one would take the risk of removing CRT pacing and switch to His pacing.

Pacemaker induced cardiomyopathy isn't an issue with either technique.  That's the whole point of both.

Procedure Date

Procedure date has been moved up to August 27, I will post after the procedure. Looking forward to getting rid of this sick feeling everytime I pace in the ventricle.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
