Pain around pacemaker site

Hi All,

i have had my pacemaker for 13 years, my battery was changed 5 years ago.

Over the last few weeks I have been experiencing pain around the Pacemaker area. The pain comes & goes.

i do have my annual check up in 2 weeks, so will obviously mention it to the cardiac nurse. Has anyone else had pain around the area?

Just curious.

Thanks in advance

Julie

Most of the time when mine hurts, it's because I did something to aggravate the scar tissue- something new at the gym, a good day kayaking, stuff like that.

When I'd had mine about 15 years, the scar tissue started to get achy. I went through batteries faster than you, I was on my 3rd by then. When I got #4, a plastic surgeon cleaned up the pocket and it was comfortable again.

It's rare to get an infection after so long but not unheard of so keep an eye out for oozing, streaks, fever, swelling.

I'm glad you asked that question.  I've had my pacemaker over four years now, and sometimes the achiness wakes me up at night.  It almost feels like something's pulling.  I just shift my arm, and it seems to help.  As I'm typing this, mine is actually hurting a little right now.  I just had a breast biopsy on the other side of the pacemaker five days ago, but for some reason, the pacemaker side is feeling that pulling sensation.  I, too, am very active and work out at the gym.  I wouldn't call mine pain, though.  I'd definitely mention it at your check up.  Better safe than sorry.
