I got my PM last June and got my life back at the same time. Sometimes, I would feel a thumping in my chest, which corresponded to my pulse. It would go away after a minute or so, and I thought nothing of it.
I recently (in the last 2 months) was unable to eat, and lost ~25 lbs. I know this sounds dumb, but I went on a diving holiday and dove twice daily for 2 weeks (family trip, already booked). The weight fell off, my fitness improved, and when I returned home, I was able to take t
Side benefit?he cure. I thought why not capitalize on a freebie and started walking, minimum 45 minutes daily. The weight has stayed off and I find I need to go for a walk daily now.
Yesterday, I noticed that I haven't felt myself being paced for weeks now.
Side benefit?

Diving with a pacemaker

Did you keep to the recommended depth level for pressure testing of your pacemaker? I had to stop diving when I got a PM because we would dive in a group and could quite happily get to 30m.
As we get more confident in having a PM the body sensations become less interesting and there is adaptation by the mind.- you are less likely to feel paced beats.
Weight loss / diving

My weight loss was due to an H Pylori infection in my stomach. I had frequent vomiting throughout the fall and winter. It wasn't diagnosed until 3 weeks before I was to leave, and my gastroenterologist didn't want to take a chance on my leaving with the issue unresolved; better the devil you know than the devil you don't know, and I wasn't vomiting at the time. (the treatment takes 2 weeks and kills pretty much everything in your stomach; afterwards, you are susceptable to new bacteria, so you have to be careful). It's said the bacteria can affect the hormones controlling your appetite and feeling of satiety.
Anyhow, about a week before we left, I found my appetite gone and most food was disgusting, I guess anorexia would be the right term. I figured I'd find enough to get by on at the resort, so I went on the holiday and had a harder time than I thought, while getting a lot of exercise, so the pounds fell off. After a week away, I was able to eat, but had little appetite.
When I returned, I immediately began the treatment, and the infection is now gone. I can eat, I've adjusted my diet and am trying to keep my fitness at a higher level. I feel great!
On holiday, I dove to 100 feet with no problem. I have a Sorin Reply DR, rated for 4 atm.

Your circumstances

Hi El Gordo,
It sounds like Ike your body has been going through quite the adjustment.
I’m too new to pacing to comment about it, but your period of anorexia/weight loss is curious to me. Have you discussed with your primary care physician?
