Just don’t feel good

This is all still new to me and I guess I’m just not sure how I am suppose to feel after 4 weeks, but I was hoping it would be better than I do.  I actually had a whole day when I felt normal and I thought I had turned the corner and now I haven’t  felt good for 2 days.  My primary thinks I should try an anxiety med but I don’t think that’s what it is.  They seem to have the same side affects that landed me in the hospital getting a pm.  My cardiologist doesn’t seem to want to see me.  Feeling frustrated or maybe this is all normal.

thanks

What meds are you taking? Some common cardiac meds will do this. It's not at all unusual.

I’m not on any cardiac meds

Leads

I would think that if the leads had moved/broken, that it would show up on the transmissions that the pm wasn’t working properly.

check settings

Your pacemaker isn't one-size-fits all, although some doctors act like they think it is, and never make any changes to those it comes with out of the box. Sometimes response rate isn't even turned on!

I harp on this fact to newbies because it's what I didn't know--didn't think to question until I got to Pacemaker Club.

In my case, changing my resting rate from 65 to 70 bpm made a huge difference. I didn't feel bad before--just sort of blah. But at 70 bpm I felt good, really good, for the first time. And the difference was apparent within 10 minutes.

Changes to response rate helped too. And there are other settings.

You're new at this game. The more you know about your pacemaker and how it works, the better you will communicate with your cardio.

Instead of complaining to the cardio, ask what your device's settings are. Once you know what they are, you can ask for specific changes.

Don't be put off by concerns about "conserving the battery." Extending battery life is important, but not at the expense of quality of life.

Your anxiety is normal. It takes some of us a little time to adjust to the new friend. As much as they love you, family and friends without a device just cannot understand the adjustment we go through. That is why this site is so valuable.
