I'm about to have a mammogram, my first since having my pacemaker fitted and am slightly concerned the pacemaker may be in the way.  It's a year since I had it fitted and can still be a little uncomfortable if I press on it.  I have read that the pacemaker can hide some of the breast tissue so am wondering if I should avoid this.  It's not my first mammogram and I have found my previous ones very painful, whether it's because I am quite small or just how it is I'm not sure.  Any comments would be much appreciated.  My husband got quite angry when I said I may decide not to have it.

mammogram

I am past-due for mine this year because I wanted to wait until the PM was totally healed up.  I'm still tender and sort of dreading it.  I don't see my gyne until Aprl, so I'm hoping it will feel better by then.  Last year I had the usual mammo and also a new scan that was sort of like an ultrasound for dense breasts.  I wonder if I'll still be able to do that one?

I find the techs very helpful and careful doing the mammo.  They will make sure the device is not squeezed/comptressed.  There was no more pain than before.

My Pm went in last September/October. Had my first mammogram since then, two weeks ago.  The radiologist took excellent care to avoid compressing the PM even though it's quite lown down near my breast.  And I'm sure your technician has dealt with many other Pacemakers before yours.

I just got my annual remider that its time to schedule mine. I had my ICD put in January 17, subpectoral, just below my armpit and still have so much pain there that there's NO WAY I'm getting a mammogram this year! When I had it last year it hurt so bad (and I didnt even have the ICD yet) that I literally almost passed out. Hoping I'll feel more confident about getting one done again sometime later in the future.
