got my pacemaker about 6 months ago and I just found out I have Afib. Did the pacemaker cause this? Any one else have this problem?

afib from pacemaker

I don't think anyone knows what triggers afib. Not all of us know when we are having an afib episode. I do not know. I only know when my PM tech tells me I had an episode which could be your case, and maybe you had afib all the time, and maybe not. Hope you get it resolved.

NO to afib

The pacemaker didn't cause afib. It's more likely that afib has been happening intermittantly for some time--maybe only a few times in a year--too rarely to be picked up by an 8 second EKG. You only know about it now because the pacemaker sensors, which are always on, recorded it.
Just for the record, my brother doesn't have a pacemaker, but in the past year has developed intermittant afib, whereas I have had a pacemaker for 8 years and don't have any afib at all.
Neither the presence nor absence of a pacemaker causes afib.
Afib, like many other glitches in heart rhythms, just happens--cause unknown. It becomes more likely to "just happen" as we age.
