We are shortly heading off for a week's skiing. I am wondering whether the electronic gates which read your lift pass work similarly to airport scanners. I know the usual advice at airports is to ask to be excused going through, but if not allowed, provided you do not linger in the scanner they are harmless.
But that is just one scan. You can go through lift pass scanners countless times per day, and they are usually beamed so that they recognize your pass even when in a breast pocket, i.e. near a pacer..
Is this a problem? I have no idea about the technology involved but this is my first ski trip since being paced so I am curious.

Ski pass
by Snowdog - 2019-01-14 05:50:12
hi... I live in a small village in the Austrian alps and skiing is a big part of our lives. I've had my pacemaker for four years and there is no problem with the skipass readers. Ours have actually changed the signage in the last two years with the ' no pacemaker ' sign on the gates. The lady that works for the lift company assured me that there is no problem as long as the lift pass is not in your breast pocket. I keep mine in the pocket that is in the sleeve of my jacket and I have never had any problems. For my own piece of mind I tend to wave my arm in front of it and turn away and I don't enter the gates until i can get all the way through on the other side. Have fun (here in Austria we have so much snow at the moment!!)
Suzypoozy- I had the same experience starting on 7/1/15 and missed the whole ski season but what's one ski season when you can then enjoy plenty more 😊

Thanks, Snowdog and Snoozypoozy.
I usually keep my pass in my sleeve too, I was concerned about the beam ranging over my upper body not just concentrating on my sleeve. But I will do as you suggest, Snowdog, wave arm then nip through. I have never seen a sign about pacemakers on the lifts, but there again, I have never looked before!
We are going to France, Arc 2000. Not as much snow as Austria, but it looks OK.

Enjoy your time on the mountain Snowdog and Missfitts. I live in Oregon, USA and our season is December to April so I will still get some days in. Cheers!
things that interfere

If anything is going to interfere, it has to be a strong magnet and be less than 6" from our device. That means ski all you like, it's fine! We can walk through the scanners at the airports now, also. We used to have to ask for a pat down but the newer ones use a different alloy and don't set it off. Live your life, unless you hang out in industrial settings or want to tour a power plant, you're unlikely to encounter anything that will affect it.
Three weeks til my next ski trip, woot!!!
Strange procedure

Thanks everyone, we are home today and great holiday. At the French airport on the way home I mentioned my pacemaker and before letting me go through the pat down procedure, the name on my PM card was checked against my passport. Has anyone else had this experience?

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
Ski

I don't know the answer to your question, but I am four weeks from my pacer "install" and am waiting for my doc to give me the green light to ski again. If I could have chosen when to have 3rd degree heart block, it wouldn't have been during ski season! Good luck to you and have a great time shredding!
