Thanks for the reply, my ICD has only been in for a week I had VT spent 3 weeks in Hospital checking out everything they could and found no problems said it must be an electrical problem and may happen again so to be safe ICD fitted.

ah red wine

I've taken to making smoothies for breakfast everyday since I discovered adding grapes (red wine) makes it real smooth

Odd, that seems a long time to be hospitalized for just a fast heart rate. Well relax, you're in good hands here. We won't take as long to tell you what's wrong with you, and charge far less.

VT (Ventricular Tachycardia) or fast heart rate is not really a problem per se, it's the fact it may go into V-Fib (Ventricular Fibrtillation) which can be deadly and ruin your day. Still it's just a pocket protector and most people who have one never enjoy a Jesus Jolt (therapy). But, in the event the worst happens, you bounce right up. It always impresses at parties to be resurrected from the dead.

If you have any specific questions ask away, it's included with the admission fee.

Thanks ROBO Pop

The 3 weeks was mainly waiting for a slot for Angiogram and MRI ( 50 mins in a bean tin wasnt fun) they could not believe how good my heart was for a 73 year old. Still it was all free over here in UK so it was a very good checkout.

Waiting for MRI and pacemaker

by AgentX86 - 2018-09-05 19:33:26

Three weeks waiting for an MRI is pretty bad. I've never waited more than a couple of hours. A week before I had my pacemaker implanted, I showed up at the ER after a near syncope event and was admitted overnight (it was a Sunday). Monday morning had an MRI and Tuesday, a stress test (would have done it Monday and sent me home but the nurses didn't get the message to stop the metoprolol). They sent me home with an event monitor after the stress test. The event monitor caught an eight second pause Friday at 3:00AM. I already had an appointment with my EP at 9:00 and he scheduled me for the PM Monday morning.

MRI machines

by Redredwine - 2018-09-06 05:24:52

In the USA you have 35.5 MRI machines per million population in UK we have 6.9 MRI machines per million that explains the longer waiting list. But oures are free using  the National Health Service.

Do what you can to not trigger it....

The best way to live with it is to not have it fire on you!  Although one fire may seem easy enough the truth is that the more they fire the more they fire.  Each time an ICD triggers you are 4 times more likely for risk of sudden cardiac death or another ICD firing.  That's 400%.  Each time it fires it does some damage.  That's why they have stopped testing them at time of implant with some exceptions.  Be healthy, don't stop living your life, but also understand you have limits.

Just because you have a device doesn't mean you are damaged goods and can't do anything worthwhile and have to lie down and die. In fact, you're better and stronger. You're bionic!
