Feel it pacing

Hi I had a Medtronic dual chamber PM put in 11 days ago. It’s been harder than I anticipated. Does anyone feel themselves pacing? The last few days have been very noticeable, and I can’t ssy that I’m doing anything different it’s just happening and its uncomfortable 😣

Thanks .... Celeste

What are you feeling?

Some (very rare) people do feel pacing. You could be one. But it's more common that some people feel PACs and PVCs after getting a pacemaker.

You should be going in for your first check-up soon. Be sure to ask about what you are feeling.

It could also be your muscles still getting used to it. I know with me, I swore up and down I was feeling zapping and they'd do chest xrays to make sure (I had three after I had it put in) and each time it was secure and in place. Not touching anything. My volts were 3.5 and the doctor explained that they experiment with the voltage while you are out. My heart  wasnt showing any reaction at 10 volts when they tested it, so at 3.5 it would be good unless something got moved.

My zapping feeling has gone away except after a hard run and it can hurt but it seems that its happening less and less so maybe my doctors are right. Its just my inner muscles and tissues getting used to the new guy.

We feel all sorts of odd things as the heart gets used to being paced and the body gets used to having a little hunk of metal in there.

It's unlikely you're feeling the pacing itself. It's more likely you're feeling the effects of the pacing. The pacer sends out a tiny electrical signal that mimics what the heart should be doing on its own- so it's a very very tiny signal- the heart responds by contracting. They start with the voltage turned up until the heart gets used to it, then turn it down at 4-6 weeks. Some people feel great right away, some take some time to heal before they feel better.

I feel it too.

I feel it too. So bad that the night I was sent home from the operation I panicked and had my wife rush me to the ER because I thought I was have a heart attack or something. I spent the night and everything turned out fine.

Went to see my rep for my 10 day post op Friday and he said everything looks good and it was set to 3.5v and I would feel it as my body gets used to it. He would lower it to 2v on the 3 month checkup to start saving batteries.

You know you're wired when...

Your pacemaker receives radio frequencies.
