Flying and suitcases.and backpack

I just got my PM a week ago. I am booked to fly to Europe for a river cruise in 7weeks. I am assuming that all will be good at 6 weeks so I can get medical I surance and travel. My question is about wearing a backpack and lifting/dragging a carry on in the airport and plane. Is it still too early to do such an activity?

Another river cruiser

We have just returned from our river cruise, and hope you will enjoy yours as much as we did ours. My PM was fitted  in May.

You don't mention which airport you are flying into, but a frequent start/fnish point is Amsterdam. If so be prepared to walk MILES through the airport, it is enormous. Have you considered asking  your airline to arrange 'extra assistance' at the airport? It is free. Even other possible airports, Budapest, Vienna etc involve a lot of walking.

I had my husband to lug our cases and just had a small wheeled carry on bag. It was not so much the walking that got me, it was the standing waiting at security, immigration, baggage reclaim. We are shortly travelling to a Carribean airport notorious for  its queuing and I have asked for assistance there. If you have no one to help with luggage you should do this.

As regards insurance, did you have it in place before getting your PM? I rang our insurers immediately after my procedure, and was told I was covered for any holidays booked before the procedure  which covered the cruise and the Caribbean, bur not any further ones. I would need to reapply for future cover.

Hope all goes well.

Lifting won't be a problem that far out. Backpack, depends on where your device is placed. If the strap is right on it, it might not feel too good yet. Slings are a good alternative.

Crazy?

Are you guys nuts...it's dangerous for us to carry a backpack or drag luggage about. In fact 6 feet is the safe distance you should stay back from those. Have your travel companion handle them.

Unless of course you're traveling alone then it's fine as TraceyE said.

I'll have to try that with my wife but I have a suspicion that it's not going to work as planned.

A wife

So it seems from your responses the best thing for me to do is go out and find a wife in the next 6 weeks. Tinder where are you!

Paul, if you do as I suggested and ask your airline for assistance, you might get a lady helper whom you can quickly marry and thereafter have all your problems solved.
