Mine was suspended for three (3) months for driving on the wrong side (UK side) of the road. I was drunk at the time

No. I was at dinner, had hiccups. I jumped up and ran to the sink for water, fainted, fell, banged my head on a slate floor. Result - cracked skull, some internal bleeding and brain damage. After many months of tests the cause of fainting was diagnosed as an asymptomatic sinus node and a pacemaker recommended.
6mth ban

i was "advised" not to drive for 6mth following cardiac arrest and ICD implant. However, in Ireland you don't have to inform your insurance or drivers license by law. Only when renewing your license do you then have to declare it. I could drive in the morning but I don't feel right in myself yet to do so. I'd rather air on the side of caution than not heeding my docs advice (although it's a hassle choosing not to drive). I'm dreading to see if my insurance goes up when I have to declare my ICD....

DGHH.... Gee that's a full plate and the 6 months sounds reasonable. Glad all is well now ...

Zoe. here in the Province of Manitoba the Doctor reports your condition and before you even get home there's a Registered Mail suspending your license.
We have a Govt. auto insurance so they control the complete driving authoirty... there is no private underwritter If your stopped for any reason and driving while suspended , your license will never be renewed.
A drunk driving conviction , your back on the road in 6 months..
That's madness isn't it!

Seems like a good system Manitoba has in place but for the wrong priorities!! Frustrating isn't it.

I was told that I mustn’t drive for at least a week after the installation of the pacemaker as my insurance wouldn’t cover me. But a week is no problem. After the accident which led to the pacemaker I was forbidden to drive for six months. In UK by law you must inform the vehicle licencing people of your injuries but your doctor authorises the sign-off.
