When Traveling Out of the Country, Bring PM ID Card

This issues comes up from time to time and I seem to be the only one it happens to but I travel outside the country a lot so I guess that’s the reason.  HOWEVER, I was flying from Abu Dhabi to Chicago this week and two different times during my security screenings I was asked if I had my pacemaker card with me.  And guess what?  I didn’t!!!  Neither person hassled me because of it (I do not fit the terrorist profile!) but still, I want to be prepared.

Next time I’m traveling out of the country, I will certainly bring the card with me.

NEWBIES: this is only for international travel.  TSA doesn’t seem to mind in the   ¨US.

Are you sure you don't look like a terrorist ??

Last year i related a tale where I was asked to show my pacemaker card at security in a Spanish airport.  By mistake I gave the guy a supermarket loyalty card which he stared at for several minutes and then waved me through . I have often wondered if I changed his shopping habits

So you have proved that having no card works, I proved that having the wrong card works .  I wonder exactly what it takes to arouse their suspicions .. maybe a pacemaker which makes a ticking noise would do the trick ?

ID card

Be greatful TSA doesn't read your posts here, it might change how they perceive your profile.

I can print one of those cards in 5 minutes on my computer, they're a joke, but Ian and you experience pretty well proves they're useless.

In 11 years the only time I was asked for the card was at the hospital where I am a frequent flier

Hilarious!

Ian, you made me laugh out loud.  I love the grocery store card story!  I carry all these "important" cards but no PM card . . . Next time I'm in a pinch, I'll try your "trick."

Robo Pop, it all depends on where you fly.  My husband is in Belarus at this time and was just majorly interrogated by their airport security because he was traveling with such large suitcases!  There's a reason for that but seriously, even our suitcases are arousing suspicion these days!

At airport security, I've been asked if I had a pacemaker, but I've never been asked to show my card.

However, if I was, I would have it, since I never go anywhere without it. I consider it as important as my driver's license. In an ER, they are really grateful when I whip it out in response to questions about my pacemaker. Takes away all the guesswork.

Now, since it's always in my wallet, I should see if it will work at the grocery store.

That’s a good admonition, Rhythm. I believe I will take it!
