I all. Our daily newspaper posted a story about a local cardiology group that started implanting some kind of micro pacemaker from Medtronic in their patients. It cannot be extracted and only 4 can be implanted over a patient's lifetime. Has anybody else heard of this newly developed tiny pacemaker??
Thanks..

Micra

Hi
I have a Micra. I'm 30 and was fitted with one after being diagnosed with intermittent complete heart block. Only fitted 6 weeks ago but so far so good. Was one night in hospital, not to painful. I didn't know that you can only have 4 in your lifetime though, they told me they didn't know.

Hi Lauraann-- Well, don't take the info I got from a newspaper story as Gospel...In fact, the cardiology group I mentioned is my very own group, and I intend to ask some questions when I go for my next appointment. I'll let you know what they say... Glad you're doing ok with your implant--
long term

They are fairly new. They can't be used with traditional leads, anyone who is dependent or needs dual chamber pacing. Hopefully that will come in time! For now their use is limited to a few lucky patients. They don't know about long term. I would imagine it's not much different than leads are now, some of us have more room for new leads than others so when one goes bad some add a new one while others have to have the old ones removed. It depends on our build and scar tissue. My guess is four is a guess. Actually, it HAS to be a guess because no one has had one long enough to need two, much less more than that.

I feel so blessed to have this little gem implanted in me. When I think of the alternative it is quite overwhelming sometimes.
