Yes, it's a real condition. Normally when the atrium is squeezing the ventricle is relaxed to allow blood to fill the ventricle. Pacemaker syndrome is where the ventricle squeezes at the same time as the atrium so less blood is pumped out to the body.
They can adjust the pacer to compensate or add another lead to better synch the beats
