Hi There
Firstly, thanks for allowing me to join this group. A little bit about why I ended up finding this club, back in August we had the Irish Heart Foundation visit the office, we all got out blood pressure \pulse checked and mine showed up as 50 ... lady said to go to dr as I explained I suffer with chest pains, tiredness, headache and dizzy spells
Finally this week I went to the dr who did an ECG and told me to head off to A&E the following day, apparently my heart is healthy but pulse is considered low
I’ve been given an appointment for next March for hospital appointment ... tests ...heart echo ...not sure of anything else
I suppose what I’m asking is ...what happens next?
I’m 50, don’t smoke, practically don’t drink and try do a couple of walks each week, watch what I eat, do need to lose a few pounds around the tummy tho...
any replies would be greatly appreciated
🙂

Hi there,
Sounds like you and I have really similar stories. In January of 2016 I went into my doctors office to get some medicine for a sinus infection. The doctor checked my heart rate and it was in the low 40s. I was 20 years old at the time (now 21 years old). I was shocked to hear that I needed to see a cardiologist, but glad I did. After I started to see my doctor I started to take a down fall with my health. I was having dizzy spells about twice a day which were scary. Once it happened while I was driving and had to pull over and ask for help. This was all so new to me and quite scary being so young. After a year and a half and seeing various cardiologists and EP doctors and doing every single test in the book at least twice if not more I can say that its been a long road. In October of 2016 I was placed on a bunch of medication, which I was told later really only made things worse (so try and avoid strange medications). Always get a second opinion, I learned the hard way. In late february of this year I was rushed to one of the best cardiology hospitals in the nation and admitted in the hospital after my heart rate had dipped down to the low 30s. I was dizzy, had an awful headache, and was very fatigue and according to my parents was really out of it. I just remember being in awful pain. While at the hospital for a week the doctors finally decided the Pacemaker was the right idea. It has been a very long year and not an easy one. Just make sure to try and stay positive and these club forums are what has given me much strength through my difficult days. Please update me on your journey!
Blessings,
Ron

If your future tests show no other rhythm issues other than a slower heart rate, you may not be requiring an immediate pace maker. However, your symptoms indicate that a pace maker would probably relieve your symptoms. As far as I know braydicardia does not improve and in most cases, such as me, progressively gets worst and the patient subconsciously gets more fatigued as the body tries to adjust. Finally, with time, feinting episodes begin, which obviously can be. dangerous if at the wrong time. When I passed out, I ended up in the hospital with a broken rib. However, I also had a Left Bundle Branch Block which added to my situation. You are definately doing the right thing by following up with yor doctors. Good Luck
