I wanted to try isolation tank float therapy, but they say I can’t because of my pacemaker. I can’t find or think of any reason why this would be a risk. Anyone else know?

I did flotation tank many, many years ago. Interesting experience. I can't think of any reason that having a pacemaker per se would limit you.
However, because the water is maintained at skin temperature, and the humidity of the air is close to saturation, your body's ability to cool itself through sweating is compromised. Becoming overheated is a real possibility. Probably not a problem for most healthy folks, but for someone with a heart condition..well, it might not be a good idea.
Try it!

We are not supposed to go through airport security arches, but I do with no ill effects. As a diabetic I am not supposed to use a jacuzzi, but I do with no ill effects. I agree with Gotrhythm about over-heating would be a concern, but if you feel hot get out! I notice that they claim flotation can lower blood pressure and improve blood flow, so if true then it could be a good thing, and floatation certainly sounds nice. So hand over lots of cash and give it a whirl! Either that or take a bath with a blindfold on ...

Fascinating Question !

My understanding of flotation therapy is that :-
i) you hand over quite alot of cash. It is perfectly OK to do this with a pacemaker.
ii You float in a tank of warm water . It is perfectly OK to do this with a pacemaker.
iii) You are in complete darkness . It is OK to do this with a pacemaker. , I do it every night.
iv) The warm water is quite a concentrated solution of Epsom Salt ( magnesium sulphate ). This salt solution enables you to float.
All I can think is that there are concerns about absorption of magnesium which could theoretically affect cardiac rhythm .This would not concern me one bit as the skin is not very good at absorbing liquids. If it was we would all swell up every time it rained !
I suppose another factor is that it is so relaxing that bradycardia would follow but that is what pacemakers are for.
On balance the only harmful part of the whole thing seems to be handing over cash .... but it does sound very relaxing !!
I look forward to other views on this
