St. Nudes recall and others recall alert

I got an email this morning from a friend saying that the st. Judes pacemakers were having a recall, I don't know if it's true. But if you have one, I would call your Dr. This is terrible if true, but in this day and age very possible. It was on the internet. Posted yesterday. Sorry, I don't have the link.

recalls happen

I haven't heard of any new ones recently. St Judes knows how to reach us, our doctors know how to reach us. FDA keeps a list on their website, when in doubt you can always call. Any time I've called St Judes to ask a question, they were able to quickly pull up my records before answering.

Abbott Labs

by The real Patch - 2017-08-31 12:28:49

Abbott Labs, who acquired St. Jude's Medical, has issued an advisory for some models of pacemaker. It does not affect defibrillator or CRT devices. A couple entires down, someone else posted the information yesterday.

This is a security issue that can allow hackers access to the device. There is a software download that fixes the problem and can be done in your doctors office.

I meant St Judes!!

So sorry! Not trying to be funny. It apparently is legit, it was on the news. Terrible, ( could it be terrorists??) Thanks for the updates!

Disappointed it is St Judes ...

... rather enjoyed thinking of a Saint of the Nudes!

But seriously - there is info about this at https://www.sjm.com/en/patients/arrhythmias/resources-support/cyber-update

Personally, unless you are a billionaire or a celebrity or something, who might therefore be at more risk of someone seeking to hold you to ransom or cause you some harm, this would not be high up my list of worries.  The attacker/hacker would need to be so close to you - a lot closer than somebody with a gun.

Gotta Add

No Hacekers yet, just the possibility

by Madamski - 2017-09-01 08:47:36

It made it to the Austrian News too. BUT:

No pacemaker has been hacked yet! So nothing has happened, it is not an attack or any kind of evil doing. They only found out there is a possibility to hack them, so the made an update that makes it impossible that people with some Saint Jude devices need to get updated.

"This planned update to pacemaker firmware (a kind of software) adds additional security protections designed to reduce the risk of unauthorized access to patients' pacemakers."

Hackers

by The real Patch - 2017-09-01 12:45:28

The possibility of "Hacking" a device has been known since I got my first device in 2007 and to date I have yet to hear about one being hacked, well except that episode on NCIS but unlike Law and Order that wasn't ripped from the headlines.

If your device is affected, go to your doctor and get the software upgrade that fixes the problem and stop worrying. In fact you should be far more worried that the CIA is tracking you and listening to your conversations through your device...oh was that not public knowledge?

Recall?

by Pm - 2017-09-06 01:21:01

Nothing t worry about.  I called st. jude yesterday and he told me it isn't really a recall, at least not like when a car is recalled.  The talk is about possible hackers so i was told that when i go for a pm check, they can do an upgrade....but there is NO rush.  Nothing and nobody has been hacked ever actually been hacked.

grammatical error

by Pm - 2017-09-06 01:25:30

Oops!  Sorry about that last sentence.  Don't know how those extra words got in there!  But , you know what i was sayng,  right?  Good luck!  And don't worry!

I finished 29th in London in 2 hours 20 minutes 30 seconds which is my fastest with or without a device so clearly it didn’t slow me down ! I had no problems apart from some slight chaffing on my scar - more Vaseline next time.
