FDA Alert on some St Jude pacemakers

Just noticed an FDA Alert for certain types of St. Jude pacemakers.  It has to do with cyber security and the names of the pacemakers affected can be found by googling FDA Alerts.

I yanked my card out to see but there is no name on the card, just a model number.

Hope Im good or this will be my second FDA Alert.  lol   Kind of gets boring, you know.

Of course Im part of the recall!  why wouldnt I be?   

I googled the model number and its on the list...........wonder if I'll need another pacemaker yet again.

Think I need a glass of wine.......would you like one too?   lol

I have a model that needs to be updated.  They said you can do it in the office, and that one would not need removal or replacement of their device.  Just discuss with Dr. about if update is right for you.  Not to stop remote transmitter.  I go on the 12th of September, I'll talk to Dr. then.

They do a software update, the device itself is fine. Laura, I could be wrong but my understanding was the update would be done automatically via Merlin. I'm not too stressed about it one way or the other, didn't even bother to see if mine is on the list. I'm not too worried about getting hacked, even if it's theoretically possible.

there is an excellent article in ZDNET about this recall and it is a recall but a voluntary one.

you  have to either have a home visit or see your doctor to discuss the need for the firmware fix.

there are some risks to both leaving it as is and their fix but all pacemakers from Aug 28th come equipped iwith the fix.

Im not particularly stressed by this one, as it doesnt require a third pacemaker in less than three years.
