Dizziness after pacemaker insertion

Some times you can get dizzy changing position from sitting to standing ( so called postual hypotension). Blood pressure being a product of cardiac output; normally the heart increases the rate a little so that when we stand the blood pressure does not fall ( or we go dizzy).  Some drugs, such as betablockers also slow down the heart for this response and makes postural hypotension more likely.

If the resting pacemaker rate level is set too low, you are more prone to postural hypotension.

Anxiety can cause light headedness and 'dizziness'. The worse response due to excessive emotion is fainting, when the heart slows and the blood pressure drops.

The symptom of dizziness is not normal, and usually indicates that there is something not quiet right. I agree with Bela-'check it out'!

Lighthededness

Lightheadeness happens when your brain does not get enough blood due to a sudden drop of blood pressure. This can happen when the heartrate is very slow. However, the  PM will protect your heartrate from running to slow, so if you feel lightheaded it could be from another reason, like side effects from medications such as beta blockers or anti-hypertension drugs. The PM does not affect the blood pressure.

You know you're wired when...

Your pacemaker interferes with your electronic scale.
