Sorry about my meltdown yesterday. Went to pain clinic, gonna get a shot in back, cortizone in knee in a couple of weeks. I am trying hard to change my attidtude! None of us know our fate. So, gonna just gonna try to feel the best I can and Cheer up!You all have helped. Also, some people I know have it way worse than me and they keep going !!!Hugs, Ileen

Rate Response

Hi Ileen    Are you sure he turned Rate Response off completely or did he just make the setting a little less sensitive ??

Every time  you drive over that bumpy road you have fooled your pacemaker into thinking that you are exercisng. It has been detecting the vibration, it thinks that you are exercising and then triggers off extra heart beats. You feeling " yucky" is not dangerous; it is just a slight increase in your heart rate.

If you really do need rate reponse you will certainly miss it next time you exercise . I see from one of your previous posts that you enjoy swimming. If you do really need RR then your heart-rate won't go up enough next time you swim and you will get breathless pretty quickly.

I know which I would rather have if I had to choose between feeling yucky for a short time in a car and not being able to exercise !

I suspect though that he may have just turned down the sensitivity on the RR setting and hopefully you will have the best of both worlds. On the other hand it is possible that you didn't need Rate  Response in the first place.

Let us know how you get on

Ian

Rate Respons

Hi Ileen,

I had my rate response turned off too, because of other issues.  Over the years though, I did have it turned back on, and had the sensitivity set really low. You might want to try that to see how it works.  For me, it works great.  Good luck!

Ian explained it perfectly so I won't repeat, but no, your heart won't pause now. Rate response is only for making it go faster on exertion (or perceived exertion on bumpy roads!) with or without that, the pacer won't let you get too slow or pause.
