Hello,
On Friday, I was swimming(quite rigorously) at my parents house, after which I started to feel odd pains (mostly sharp, little bit of pressure) around my icd site and right below the clavicle. Thinking that it was just from swimming, I didn't think of anything. Except today(Sunday), my pain(mostly pressure) is still present. Should I call the doctors office or should I wait and see? Thanks in advance,
*****************Update********************
So around midnight(Sunday) I received my first ICD shock, I had a flash of white light followed by lots of pain. Followed by beeping from the device. I remained calm and fell right back asleep. Monday morning I called my cardiologist as well as send the transmission to the device clinic. The cardiologist called me back and told me to go to ED immediately. He was concerned that BOTH of my leads are fractured because the shock was inappropriate. In the ED, I ended up having multiple episodes of SVT, so tomorrow, Tuesday, I will be having EP study and an SVT ablation. Then on Wednesday, they will remove the leads, and insert new ones. On top of that my MD told me that swimming aggravated the fractures. Wish me luck, Paula
******************** Update part 2******************
So yesterday(Tuesday the 27th) I was scheduled for my EP study and lead revision. However that day played out a lot different. As I was getting prepped for the procedure, this is around noon, I was supposed to have my procedure in the late afternoon, I was starting to feel very dizzy with palpitations and chest heaviness, so the hospital called a code on me. Apparently I was in VT looking SVT, so my doctors transferred me to CCU, and told me to wait out the symptoms and that my EP case would be bumped up. Well around 4pm my EP study started, half way through the procedure they woke me, so that they could induce the rhythm. They were able to find THREE rhythms to ablate and they were able to do it. Apparently, I was the most complex case they have ever seen. The pain during ablation was worse than the icd shock. However, I'm glad that they were able to find it. Now I'm just recovering. As far as the leads go, we still have to come up with a plan.

Chest pain always warrants a trip to the ER.
Localized soreness around the device is not chest pain. Unless you have symptoms that you had before you were paced, I would not bother calling. As the others said, ice it. It takes a while for scar tissue to build up and get numb, and when we do something new it will pull and we can irritate it.
wow!!

How crazy is that?! Do they think the leads were bad before and got worse from swimming, or that swiming damaged them? Good luck to you. Please let us know how it goes.
Sending luck.

Amazingly you went back to sleep?? I probably would have been camping out on the ER's doorsteps. :)
Good luck and feel better.

I am no expert, but I believe that without the defibrillator that I have, I would be dead.

I'm coming up on 9 months with my ICD and still get pain around area when I swim, kayak, and work out. I think I'm just irritating it and it's something I have deal with. Mine is placed subpectorally. Try icing the area---I think it helps me---it would reduce inflammation.
Call you doctor to ease your mind and make sure there is nothing else going on. Send a download to him if you have that capability.
