Greetings all,
I just got my Boston Scientific Emblem S-ICD implanted on Monday, June 12 because I have hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. I was diagnosed two years ago and so far have shown no evidence of VT and only one brief run of AF that was caught by a 30-day monitor last summer. I did have one episode of presyncope about a year and a half ago while walking down the street, but whatever caused it (VT?) was corrected before I could black out.
Having just discovered this site I've seen a good bit of discussion here about pacemakers, and a little about ICDs, but nothing yet about S-ICDs specifically (which doesn't surprise me because they're pretty new). Does anyone else have one, and if so, how long have you had it? I can't help wondering how much it's going to get in my way once the wound has settled down, because right now I feel like I have a sardine can in my armpit! Has anyone here been conscious when they got shocked so they could actually feel that 65-80J kick?
I look forward to finding some fellow Emblemites!

After looking around a little more I found a few posts about S-ICDs, but it seemed like most were by a member who knows a doctor at Boston Scientific rather than patients who actually have one, and a couple were by people who had recently gotten prescriptions for S-ICDs but hadn't been implanted yet. In any case, it looks like that Facebook group will be another matter entirely: it's got 837 members now, and assuming my request is accepted, will soon have 838. :-)

Hi,
There have been some mentions of the S-ICD's here. I think maybe for having one as a replacement for an transvenous ICD and also vice versa.
There is a facebook group "Living with the S-ICD" where you might see posts from more people with these Boston Scientific devices.
Though my doctors would prefer implanting an ICD (for the pacing capabilities), there are reasons why I am still leaning towards the S-ICD.
Anyway, I hope you heal well and get on with your life.
