SAME TIME EVERY NIGHT

Almost 7 weeks ago I woke up feeling a little off. I was in the middle of a cup of coffee, talking to my friend, and I suddenly felt an intense swirl and I passed out. My friend took me to the hospital. Luckily it happened again and I flatlined for 30 seconds. I was given a pacemaker an hour later.

I was shocked. I am even more shocked by how well I adjusted. I had a few instances of fear when I felt weak to the point of being debilitated ... But for the most part I just feel blessed and grateful.

This forum has answered my questions more than the doctor so here goes ....

does anyone else feel this? The same time every night (1:30 am for me) I feel a quickening of my heart, a kind of flutter or purring feeling ... Followed by a little shortness of breath. It only lasts about 15 seconds in total ... But it is consistent ... Every night for the last 2 weeks.

Anyone ne else have an experience like this one? Is it the pacemaker kicking in? Is it collecting data? Any insight?

Diagnostic Self-Check

by IAN MC - 2017-06-16 09:07:59

It definitely sounds as though your PM is set to carry out a diagnostic self-check at 1.30 in the morning. You can do one of two things :-

-  ask to have the self-test switched off , or

- change the time to something more acceptable for you.

Mine was set for 11.30 pm and often woke me just as I was falling asleep with exactly the same sensations which you describe. My cardiologist happily switched it off but it really does depend at what stage you are at in the whole pacemaker experience.

I believe it is mainly a monitoring function but can make minor self-changes to the settings mainly to optimise battery life.

Best of luck

Ian

Like Ian said, it sounds like the self-check.

BTW, I like your moniker choice  :)   .....and I feel the same.
