I just fell down the stairs.

Should I get checked out? I got my pm 3/24/17. I landed on my left shoulder, elbow and knee.

PMs and falls

by Selwyn - 2017-06-10 17:04:51

Many people have fallen, and even played contact sports, without damage to their PMs. Unless you have severe, direct, trauma it is inconceivable you have done any damage. The boxes are very tough and the leads take some shifting.

Can't speak about the rest of you though!

Don't worry about breaking your pacemaker in a fall down the stairs

by Gotrhythm - 2017-06-10 21:34:14

Breaking your arms and legs, now, that could happen. They're only made of calcium, magnesium and a little of this and that.

The pacemaker is made of titanium. You could beat on your pacemaker with a hammer and not hurt it.

Maybe call your doctor

From your other post you have been having trouble with lightheadedness and low BP.  If you think that was the cause for falling down the stairs then you should call your doctor.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Thank you

My fall wasn't precipitated by a cardiac event. I didn't get lightheaded or dizzy. I was just a clutz and tripped over my own 2 feet. I always wear sneakers so heels are not an issue. Grace is not my middle name.i did go get checked out. Nothing broken and my leads are still in place, thank God. I also went to the hospital affiliated with the 2nd opinion doctor and got the name of an electrophysiologist who is also a cardiologist. I plan to make an appointment with him ASAP to handle all the other issues. I am very sore today but grateful it wasn't worse. I fell down about 8 stairs and really tried to protect my left side on the way down. It happened in slow motion. Thanks again!

leads

by dwelch - 2017-06-12 18:17:23

I wouldnt worry about the pacer itself but breaking a lead or the area where the lead is connected to the pacer.  Do you feel different, if you take your pulse is it strange, irregular, below your lower limit.

probably worth a call.  a call cant hurt, nor can a quick visit/interrogation.  If you have one of the boxes at home they can AFAIK so far check from there.

I got number one at 19 years old, BMX, Skate, fell pretty much every day, but didnt hit the pacer itself for many years, by then would have known if something had broken or not and it didnt.

You know you're wired when...

You need to be re-booted each morning.
