..........I,ve had my Treadmill Test today....underwhelming is a good word.
My old pal IAN MC predicted this.
The process took 8 minutes at 2.5 mph at 12% incline and I was limited to a HR Max of 140....a far cry from my HR Max of nearer 180 using the Hunt Test formula.
But..my Cardiologist who was present was pretty happy with the results because my BP numbers and my BPM recovery rate were all better than expected. My current TANITA print off gives me a Metabolic age of 51 and a BMI of sub 22 so all is not lost...
The fact is that I am heading towards a second Aortic valve replacement.
I would have just loved to have given that treadmill a bit of a thrashing..
I,m not sure if this is really of any great use to PM Club..its just another step along the way for me....thanks for your patience.

..........Good to hear from you ...OLD PAL.
The eight minutes gave Mr Cardio all he needed and on my request to see if I could make his machine burst into flames with my Titanic effort..his calm response was along the lines of.."Save your energy for blowing up the kit at the Council Gym..we have all the info we need "
The symptoms that I am presenting is 'only' a significant increase in gradient across my aortic valve over the last year. NO discomfort of ANY sort. This deterioration of gradient results from stenosis of the replacement valve.
IAN..for me the most significant outcome after the treadmill test was that my Cardiologist had no problem with my training up into the 170+ BPM zone...we agreed that it would be ME that would be the first to notice any tangible slowdown in my level of performance and,..significantly, recovery from high intensity effort.
Given that my test was on a Tuesday afternoon rather than a Friday, I'm guessing that the 'Golf Factor' was not very likely..
Take care Friend.

Hi Tat Man I wonder what determined the length of your treadmill test :-
- Was your cardiologist working to a set protocol and he found everything he needed to know in 8 mins
- Did he have a round of golf planned and kept looking at those 15 patients behind you in the waiting room ?
- Or was he worried about you croaking if you went over the 8 minutes ??
I assume that you must have had symptoms for him to suspect that you need a replacement valve ; e.g. shortness of breath, chest pain, dizzyness, signs of leakage around the valve etc ???
I know that you had open heart surgery for your last valve replacement . I understand that in some situations they can do a "transcatheter " procedure where they introduce the new valve via blood vessels instead of cracking the chest open. Is this a possibility in your case ? Also, any idea when you will need the replacement ??
Keep on running , and keep us updated
All the best
