Young with pacemaker

Hi :) i'm Paige!

I just joined this to see how old people are who usually have pacemakers?

Nobody else I know has one at all, I'm 23 and had it put in when I was 19 due to bradycardia. (Slow heartbeat)

i had no medical history before this!

Thanks ;)

 Hi Paige,

I was nearly two years old when I had my pacemaker fitted.

All the best!

The average pacemaker patient is three times your age, but many of us here are younger. I was 27 when I got my first one, am 50 now and still the youngest at my doctor's office and regularly hear "you're so young to have a pacemaker!"

me too

They found my issue when I was a pre-teen (today they would have found it before or just after birth), and watched it for years and then my first pacer was at 19, I just got number five a handful or so weeks ago now.

Like the others who start that early you will be the youngest patient in the waiting room.  Being a pre-teen both my mom and I were the youngest in the room and she wasnt the patient, I was.

So unlike some folks here, you will be like us that started young and will have a lifetime of these things, the cycle of first year and last years and the keep on trukin time in between for each pacer will become routine.  In my experience each replacement is easier than the prior one.  The devices get more features, now they have these take home monitors, etc...And now this site, I started this journey pre-public-internet, long long before this site or any other contact with a pacer patient other than the waiting room which I wasnt going to strike up a conversation there.  I also didnt know if I was the only one that started young, sorta happy to have learned, through this site, that I wasnt alone.

You know you're wired when...

You run like the bionic man.
