how can you tell

How can you tell which new car model or brand will work the best or last the longest? You cannot tell you have no control over what was produced, you may try to make one out perform another, but if a brand has a bad year they have a bad year.
I am getting number five (pacer) next week, and talked about this with the doc. Right now no brand is standing out as bad or good, so they prefer to spread it around, if one brand or model were to have a problem then only a percentage of the patients have to deal with it rather than all of them (if they all had that brand). I imagine some docs have favorites and that is not bad either that probably means they know all the nuances of that brand, can get them dialed in quickly...
I dont like the St. Jude hacking thing or how they handled it, but if you think they are the only ones with that problem/risk you are mistaken. (they can hack your car on the way to work, or if not this one then your next one, or the car coming the other way on the road, so what if you have a pacer you are at no greater risk) Last time around they switched me from medtronic to St. Jude to try to get a couple three more years maybe save me one replacement over the rest of my life. But I need a three chamber (have a two chamber now)(something you deal with as you approach 30 years with a pacer) so we wont find out how long this one was going to last.
You cant tell how long the loaf of bread is going to last before getting moldy. You cant tell how long the banannas are going to last on your counter. tomatoes, oranges, apples...It is what it is, worry about things you can control.
On the other hand you get a new fangled one each time, smaller, more features.
You know you're wired when...
You forecast electrical storms better than the weather network.

Just because you have a device doesn't mean you are damaged goods and can't do anything worthwhile and have to lie down and die. In fact, you're better and stronger. You're bionic!

Don't worry about things you can do nothing about. Many things affect battery life anyway. That is why they increase the frequency of monitoring you when it looks like a battery is getting closer to its end, and replace it before it fails.
