Awakened

Is it possible that my pm activates at night and wakens me? Was implanted in Nov.do not know how often it activates. Having interrogation in a few weeks. Can it be determined at this exam if that is what happens? I wake up every night now about three hours after falling asleep. Have problems falling back to sleep.

Is it the same time every night? If so, it is probably the daily self check.

The pacer monitors 24/7. How often it paces depends on why you have it. If your sinus rate drops below the minimum, it will add beats as needed to keep you above the minimum. If you have av block, it'll watch for when the atria beats and make sure the ventricles stay in sync. So, it may or may not pace at night. You shouldn't feel the actual pacing. It's not unheard of but it's pretty rare. The signal it sends out is very small, mimicking what the heart should be doing on its own.

As Tracey says….

... it may be the daily self-check. When it happens it is a similar feeling to having a PM interrogation. Mine was waking me up every night so I asked to have it switched off which they did.. slightly reluctantly.

I haven't had any problems since.

Same problem

My first pacemaker was put in 6 weeks ago and I am also finding that I do not sleep as well as I did before, usually waking up about 2-3 hours after going to bed and then spending  the next few hours tossing and turning. My sleep rate is set at 50bpm, day time rate at 60bpm. Despite this I am feeling brighter and more energetic during the day! Can others explain what is "the daily self check" mentioned above? Thanks.

I have a well tuned pacer. I hardly know I have it. I am 76 year old, hike and camp alone in the desert. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. The only problem is my wife wants to have a knob installed so she can turn the pacer down.
