Can Sun Affect the Pacemaker Site?

I've had my pacemaker for just over 2 years and for a number of reasons I've not had chance to get away for a holiday until now. Since I shall be off to warm climate for a couple of weeks I was wondering if the sun can cause a reaction at the pacemaker site and whether it needs to be kept protected from the sun.

Thanks,

Shaun.

Wear sunblock

I've never had anything weird happen from exposure to the sun, but don't forget to keep the area covered in sun screen. The itching stage of sunburn just feels weird when the incision site is involved.

Sun fine

The advice that I was given after heart surgery was to avoid sun for a year afterwards, and I have been sunbathing since without problem.

Love the sun

I love the sun, including my pacemaker site.  Sun will not hurt your incision site.  Enjoy your trip!

Thanks All

I'm looking forward to the break away especially after having suffered a prolapsed disc at the end of last year as a result of hitting a pothole on my bike.

The reason I asked the above question was because I notice my pacemaker site can get a bit itchy and the skin goes a bit red at times. But it happens infrequently and when it does it clears in less than a day so I've never bothered mentioning it to the doctor.

Sun it toatlly fine, I live in Florida and I was at the beach 3 month later and nothing ever happened to me or to my pacemaker or the area, just wear your normal sun protector  and you will be just fine

and all was fine. I've had my PM for 3 years and have noticed that my scar will burn faster than the rest of my skin. Wear sunscreen and it will be no problem.
