Has any of our female members had breast screening , with pacemaker fitted.?
I wondered if their were any complications as the screening itself usually pulls on the muscles around the pacemaker.
Thanks Jillygirl.

Hi,
I just had my pacemake put in October 12th and I had my mammogram done the end of January. I was nervous but I just told the tech about my new addition to my body and she was very gentle. It was a little tender a few hours after but nothing bad. Like Tracy said waiting 6 months or so would probably be best but our insurance offers them free every January so I just went for it.
She even showed me what it looked like in there after she was done.

I have had numerous screenings done with no problems. I always make sure to tell the tech as then they are aware of it. Other than that side being somewhat more tender there have been no other issues.
I agree with Tracey in that you should wait awhile if the device is new, partly because it will hurt like heck!
No problem for me

i support all that has already been posted. I had my PM last June and I had my first mammogram last week. They were very caring and reassured me that they see lots of women with pacemakers. If anything hurts as they press ,don't be afraid to let them know. My technician got a bit too close to the edge of the PM and I felt some pain. She immediately responded.

Thank you all for your re assurance. I just phoned the clinic and they adviced me to wait a couple more months. :)

It's perfectly safe. Just make sure the tech knows it's there. The first time I had one after, they did a quick gentle scan to see where the device and wires are, then looking at that they did the full scan.
If your device is new, give it at least 6 months before scheduling one so all residual soreness is gone.
