Hi all
Just joined 'the club' this morning and have been reading thru posts - and responses - these have been really helpful. I ended up in Emergency last Mon after a number of 3rd degree heart block episodes with emergency pacemaker fiited the following day. This came as a complete shock altho in retrospect I could say I was feeling more tired than normal - but who can tell!? Normally pretty healthy, runner, busy lifestyle, 55, so this has knocked me back a bit to say the least. They were planning to do a battery of tests to find out why, but after a significant block on the Tue am, they decided to go ahead with the implant asap.
Anyway - from finding this forum, I know I have to embrace the PM and really get to know what it means and how it works!
My main concern at the moment, I kept reading that this would make a significant difference and I would feel better than ever! I know its only a week, but probably feeling worse than I did this time last week - I can tell when the HR is dropping as I feel the light headedness coming on in a wave. They set up the PM with a complex algorith initially (lower limit, higher and response time), then when it wasnt quite right they reset it back to a basic pacing mode AAI<+>DDD at 50 bpm rate. I dont have a check up for ano 5 weeks, but feels like this may be too low? Before PM my resting HB was about 56 bpm.
I also feel easily fatigued. Not sure if this is just a reaction to the event and will get better - just need to 'pace' myself.

Hi. I've been with my pacemaker for 5 years. I received it one day before my fiftieth birthday. It has made the world of difference and also......I would not be here to write this without it. That said, I now have the energy of a 20 year old. With me my energy levels returned in only a couple of weeks. It did take a few visits to get the settings correctly set for my lifestyle but you need to tell them how you're feeling. They listened. Good luck.

It probably takes some time

Mine was fitted last monday, so not much experience to share, but i imagine it takes a bit more time to get adjusted.
Not just physically but perhaps more so dealing with the shock of needing a pacemaker in the first place.
