faster heart beat

I had a pacemaker put in a week ago.  Soreness finally fading away.  Have had a slow heartbeat now almost 2 years.  Finally got a pacemaker.

My heartrate would be in the 30's and 40's at resting.  I have A-fib for almost 2 years and because of the slow heartbeat I wasn't able to continue with flecanide. until I got a pacemaker.

Even during the day it would be in the low 60's.   Pacemaker is set to go no lower then 60.  But, it goes up as high as 75 so far.  Seems unusual that all of a sudden it would go that high.  Wondering why putting in the pacemaker my heart would suddently go up to 75.

Would call the doctor but its Saturday and I am sure I be fine...Just can't figure why all of a sudden I have a heart beat in the 70's. When it always would be in low 60's  during the day.   I thought the pacemakers job was to make sure heart doesn't go below 60.  Anyone else experience this?

After Hours Call

Your doctor should have a After Hours Number for help that IS NOT AN EMERGENCY. Your doctor or clinic has a answering service, someone should call you back within 10 to 30 minutes.

My understanding is your pacemaker sets the pace a high and a low.  You may need a bit of an adjustment. Your first setting is a guess, as your body adjusts the pacemaker settings will be adjusted to your personal needs.  Call the 24 hour line and make sure everything is okay, better to ask now than risk getting into trouble.

Heart Rate

It sounds like the pacemaker is doing it's job.  It is not letting your HR go below 60 like in the past.  When you walk, move or exercise your HR should go up to compensate needing more oxygen and blood to your organs.

It takes time to get used to your heart being paced and it's only been one week so you will notice everything.

Your HR can go up on it's own....it just won't go that low anymore....good news.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
