new pm implant members

Implant:  At first it's scary but if you take your time and listen to the professonals especially if your an athlete things will get better. I was shocked to find so many health people with pm devices. It's hard to suddenly realize things have changed. Each person is a little different some of us are worse then others. If one fellow member runs everyday and another has difficulty walking several blocks those are the warning indications one must learn to respect and make the adjustments accordlingly.

Example I lifted heavy weights grew very strong nice muslcles etc. Now my program is "hardy" but not the same and after several years it's warning me to be careful. I get very tired, my muscles cramp. get back pains and sometimes I feel very good but not always. I often rationalize; it's the workout, my age but in the end it's my pm and not being able to do what I did prior to the pm is more typical then not. .

Don't forget... follow the doctors direction and advice give yourself time to heal and also time to make the necessary adjustments. Time is your best friend. Remember and listen to your body it speaks to you.

After your surgery careful try to get help DO NOT USE YOUR ARM give it time to heal. A MUST. Hope this helps.

Thanks Lee T

Actually, one must use that arm and one should exercise  .. carefully  .. The healing time after the implantation should be  ?????  3 days  ???  this does vary  a ton .

I think that a man should be able to walk a mile  and , be able to lift 40 pounds  ..  but some jobs require twice that  .. and being an athelete   ..  3-4 time that  ..

And, I think one with a PM should be able to do, at least most of what he did, pre-PM .

Excellant Points

I've had my PM for about a month now and it hasn't been easy but it is doable. It takes time to heal and get used to my new situation. At first I wanted to ignore it and just get back to how I was pre PM. Now I kind of accept that things are different. Just how different isn't clear yet.

Lee T makes some great points. We were all different from each other before our PMs and we'll continue being different with our PMs. Everyone heals differently and everyone reacts to this change in our lives differently. For some this is relatively easy but for others it is very difficult. For me, hearing other people's stories is very encouraging.

Time is the key. With enough time I'll get used to my PM and how it has changed me.

Moving Forward

I have had my device almost six years, I have not adjusted to it.  It is in the way, hurts, itches, bangs against my clavical.  A constant reminder of my tenuous hold on life.

I am active, returned to everything I did before I developed a cardiac condition. Attitude has a lot to do with recovery as does cardiac rehab. If you think you are less than you were that makes you less than you were pre implant. Basically a state of mind.

You know you're wired when...

Intel inside is your motto.
