It almost made me think I want a "do over" with my implant.
But then when I thought about it some more.....nah. I'll pass.

Different approach after PM
by WillieG - 2017-02-08 13:18:37
The day after my PM was implanted, I drove 440 miles to a nephew's graduation alone. My arm was sore and had to reach over to use blinker light with R arm. This lasted 3-4 days. I washed my own hair in the sink for 3 days and then showered. I took no pain meds (the discharge nurse never mentioned them) and cooked and did most activities as normal. I had a little difficulty sleeping on my back as I was used to sleeping on my side. My PM felt like a knife digging in me but his only lasted 2 weeks to lay on R side and 3 weeks for left side.
We are all different so don't expect to be an invalid after this procedure.
Good Luck!
Thank you!

Thanks for the advice!! I know everyone has a different experience as far as pain and heal time... I hope mine goes great with minimal pain :) !!!!! I am very small so I hope it does not make the pain worse lol. I will sure find out soon! Thanks again for taking the time to respond! It makes me feel better about it all somehow hearing from others who have been there done that:)
Recovery

I'm about a month in with my PM, so it is all pretty fresh in my mind.
My recovery was relatively easy. My implant was on a Monday and I went home on Tuesday. Took one pain pill on Tuesday and no more after that. My shoulder hurt a bit but feeling the pain helped minimize how much I used my left arm.
I work from home so I "went" back to work on Wednesday. I kind of dove into work which kept my mind off the PM. I think this was a form of denial.
I didn't sleep a lot on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Woke up and couldn't get back to sleep so I got up and started working. By Friday I just refused to get up when I woke up during the night and wound up getting back to sleep. This has been the same every night since. Sometimes I get back to sleep quickly and sometimes it takes a while. I would recommend not getting up if you wake up - just lie there and go back to sleep. I was able to sleep only on my back for about a week. After that I could sleep on my back and right side. Still can't sleep on my left side.
After about two weeks I realized that the meds we're making me a bit groggy. As it lessened it became obvious to me. It had been obvious to my wife from the first day. It was kind of like a fog going away. I'm still more tired than usual but it gets a bit better every day.
Good luck!
Recovery

Mine did not involve an overnight stay so I put a whole chicken and some potatoes in the crock pot before leaving that morning and had a good meal for the next few days. (but there are only 2 of us and I didn't have an appetite) Frozen pizza and take out worked for the next couple of days and by then I felt like cooking.
I bought some cheap flannel shirts since it was cold here at the time and button up shirts are much easier to put on when you can't lift your arm plus the heavy flannel helped conceal the no bra look
I found sleeping in the recliner much easier than laying down. The first week I had shooting pains in my shoulder if I laid down on my side and have never been able to sleep laying on my back. In the recliner I had pillows under my left arm and it worked well.
The worst is over in less than a week - I took Tylenol the first few days but didn't really think it helped much.
Good luck - hope it all goes well.

I finished 29th in London in 2 hours 20 minutes 30 seconds which is my fastest with or without a device so clearly it didnt slow me down ! I had no problems apart from some slight chaffing on my scar - more Vaseline next time.
Thank you!
