Update

Just wanted everyone to know that I think we've finally found the problem I've been having for the last year! Last year when I went to get cataract surgery my heart decided to do a dance that they didn't like and I ended up in the ER for the remainder of the day while they were trying to figure out what was going on (really nothing--but some tachycardia) in the process they changed some of the settings on my PM and ever since then i've felt like crap. No one could figure it out and i was going back and forth from my GP who kept saying heart, Heart dr who kept saying not etc. I finally gave up and just accepted it. Of course thanksgiving day was another story and landed in the ER because of what they thought afib. long story short. today I had an appointment with the surgeon who did my cox maze procedure last year. he always wants a PM download right before i visit him so I was at the cardiologist's office (next door) and while they were downloading they FINALLY caught what was going on! Apparently the U of U had made some adjustments last year to PM that was screwing up my settings and they caught it in the act for the first time. yeah and I had had other downloads before and still no one could figure it out. FINALLY!! they had put me into (for lack of a better explaination) like a heart block where the pacemaker was trying to pace over my heart and the ventricles couldn't keep up not really sure how to explain it but they adjusted it today and WOW! I feel so much better!! I kept trying to tell them from the get go to set the PM back to the settings I had before but they couldn't find the issue and refused to do so. I am so glad they finally figured it out! SETTINGS really do make a huge difference! who would have thought??

That is really interesting. Actually, I am not at all surprised. Someone here posted a link to a study done in Germany. A bunch of Doc's looked at PM settings along with the history of patients "after" they died. Yes, they explanted the PM's, checked the settings along with the patient history.

In my opinion, the results were appalling. A really large percentage of them were never programmed. They still had the factory settings. They found that many were programmed improperly.

The point here is; if you don't feel well, don't give-up trying to get satisfaction. Find a new doctor if you need to, but don't give-up. You made that point very well!

THANKS!!

DAVID

wow, scary story with a good ending!!

I am a newbie here, but I am so glad they figured you out finally!I will definitely be careful when I go to Dr other than my own, and if I feel bad I will know that I should look at settings. It's hard to speak up at Docs these days, but, we have to. They do not always catch things

I had a loop monitor a Linq, they missed 2 pauses, found them when I downloaded my home device by mistake. Then they called me and said " you need a pacemaker,we found 3 pauses in July!(It was now November!) So, to make a long story short, I went to another Dr, and now have a pacemaker.I had a good outcome, but it could have been bad. We have to remember, these devices are only ad good as the people reading the downloads ( in my case) I am having hard time trusting any Dr I am sorry to say. Glad you are good now but sorry you had to go thru that!Hugs, Eileen( newbie of one week!)
