Can you feel the pacer pacing? I felt something funny in my throat and in my stomach this morning. I went for wound check( pacemaker 1 work week today) Did not see doctor. I don't think I have ever felt that before. Kind of like a heart skip, I get those almost every day, and I hate them, scares me now for forty years. I wish the pacer would help those. Thanks in advance, again for any help. I am worrying again!!not good !

Feeling pacemaker
by Lana11 - 2016-12-27 17:02:02
If it happens at the same time everyday, it could be the pacemaker doing it daily self check. I feel a fluttering in my throat every night at 12am. It's nothing to worry about if this is the reason for it
Thank you Sparrow and Lanai and all

Weird sensations
by Figallegro - 2016-12-27 17:47:38
For about a month after implant, I felt some weird sansations in my chest. One felt tlike the PM was internally burning me. They did an immediate remote check and said everything was fine and that many times nerves are dislodged during suregy and these are sympathetic nerve impulses. Not usre it that helps, but it does take some time for healing of muscles as well as nerve after implant.
Thank you both Fig and Sparrow!

Skip a beat...

...NO WAY. That is if your PM is working correctly. It just will not let that happen, it is that reliable.
Let's go back to that 40 yrs worth of history you have with the skip business. That pre-dates your PM by nearly 40 yrs. Short of seeing one of them on an ECG, I'd bet that what you are feeling is called a PVC - Premature Ventricular Contraction. Common as grass. Scary as all getout. What happens is that for some unknown reason, your Ventricles contract earlier than usual, giving you a wimpy beat, followed by a pause while the heart gets itself back on track, followed by a very heavy beat because the ventricles filled more than normal during the pause. Here's what you sense: ...Thump, Thump, Thump, thump, pause, THUMP, Thump, Thump, Thump...
Where:Thump = normal heart beats; thump = wimpy, premature beat; pause = pause; THUMP = heavy beat following pause. You actually have to be awaiting the PVC in order to sense the wimpy beat - it is that wimpy, so that you sense a longer pause than actually occurs - giving rise to the feeling that your heart has skipped a beat, whan it really hasn't.
The PM cannot help you here - it can only correct things that are going to occur late (or not at all). It takes meds to knock down PVC's. BUT... NOT TO WORRY - PVC's are harmless, unless you have a lot of runs of them.

Not sure what you felt

There are two feelings I am familiar with that are uncomfortable. Not sure what you are experiencing.
1.) Palipations - I can feel these in my throat and sometimes in my chest. They are completely harmless, but very uncomfortable. They can be caused by stress, too much caffeine and/or alcohol, lack of sleep, etc.
2.) Sometimes my PM sends a pulse at about the same time my heart beats on its own. It is kinda like a double beat. It is rare, but when it occurs can be uncomfortable.
