Extreme shoulder pain

I have had my pacemaker for 5yrs and in the last 6 months or so have developed extreme pain in my shoulder.  It almost feels like nerve issues.  Burning, shocking feeling that has started to radiate down my arm with certain movement.  My range of motion without pain has decreased dramatically.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Have you been to the doctor? Losing range of motion is serious. Once it's gone it can be hard to get back.

If you have consutled an MD and didn't get a useful answer, you might need to go to someone else.

don't assume it's the pacer

Start with your GP, then possibly an orthopedist that specializes in shoulder.

Same here!

I've been experiencing left shoulder pain and numb spots, as well as deep burning pain in my left armpit.  Got my PM almost three years ago but this only started about eight months ago.  Doc found no lumps or bumps or anything of concern, thinks it's a chronic muscle inflammation.  I'm not terribly active but I'm thin so my doc thinks the weight of the PM may be exerting a constant pull on my shoulder. (My cardiology team says they've never heard of such a thing.)  Just coincidentally, I was due for a chest CT (annual follow-up on lung nodules) so doc had them do "bone windows" to see if anything's going on with the ribs.  Will have those results next week.

I've come across a few studies of folks who turned out to be allergic to various metals, whether from PM, joint replacements, brain clips, etc.  Their symptoms included muscle pain, muscle wasting, fatigue, various skin issues, depression, etc.  (One study was of a pair of adult twins who both had their PMs replaced with gold-plated PMs after the allergies were diagnosed.)  I've always had metal sensitivities (especially nickel in cheap jewelry) and am now wondering if perhaps I'm allergic to something in my PM.  It does seem strange for these symptoms to show up nearly three years post-implant.

Thanks for your input, all, and Happy New Year!  :-)

Thank you

The pain sounds the same.  Will let you know what my dr says.  Unfortunately I can't get in until Feb 1
