SORE THROAT?

I received a pacemaker in September due to a complete heart block. Since my surgery I constantly have a sore throat that radiates to my right ear.
I never had this issue until I had this surgery.
I did not have a tube down my throat during any surgery.
I do not have cold or flu symptoms.
It always feels better after I eat or drink something warm, but the pain immediately returns.

Acid reflux

I’ve had a hiatus hernia for years, that causes acid reflux, rather than getting “classic heartburn” symptoms it manifests as an extremely sore throat. Once the esophagus has been burned it can be sensitive for many, many weeks and can mimic the symptoms of a sore throat. I had symptoms for weeks on end before I was diagnosed. My GP prescribed Nexium (esomeprazole) which relieved it within a few weeks. I'm also a little more carefull about what I eat. Pastries in particular.
I think it’s highly unlikely the procedure caused the sore throat you are experiencing; however the stress of going through the procedure may have unsettled things for a while. The whole digestive tract/bowel tends to be good indicator that we are “stressed,” as is the skin with odd little rashes just appearing and disappearing of their own accord.
If it’s worrying you it’s worth getting checked out to put your mind at rest and just check you not picked up something viral. Unfortunately hospitals are breeding grounds for the little beasties.. :)

Hi LORIAAA
I have exactly the same symptoms after an ICD operation. Did you find out the reason for the sore throat? And what treatment did you get?

Doctors never found a reason for the sore throat, but it did gradually go away after a couple of months.
No - it was not a virus, but I did have a lot of stress from the surgery. Today..... I feel great!

All the pacer does is make your ventricles beat when the atria does. Nothing about that would give you a sore throat. Maybe you picked up a virus in the hospital? One of my kids had a viral sore throat that lasted almost a month. You might want to follow up with the gp.
