CRT

Hi my husband has just been diagnosed with Heart Failure. They tried a TOE and elctrocardioversion but that failed 3 times. They are sending us to Melbourne for him to have a CRT we see the consultant this Friday and will have it done next week im guessing. He has AF and leaking valves with this aswell. Im very nervous about the procedure he is only 49 and leads a very active lifestyle.

Angrysparrow thank you for your reply. I am a strong person. Thats why I have joined this group to vent my concerns on here and not to my husband. I have stood by him through all of this and vowed to get him through it. I would never think less of him nor let anyone for that matter.

In the last 5 1/2 years I have buried my newborn son and my father who was my best friendso I know about stepping up and being that person who others rely on. This news has shocked me and im looking for support and answers to some questions I may have along the way so I can help my husband get back to a healthier version of himself.

I have looked through some older posts and feel a bit more confident about his procedure and his recovery. :)

I think the NICE guidelines in the UK set the number at <35% to be considered for CRT, though I think that has only recently come into effect (past couple of years) You would have thought that the numbers for implementing the device would have been the same world-wide, but apparently not.

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
