Hi, I got a pacemaker a year ago due to Bradycardia. Since then, my BP has been on average 150/96 and the like. My cardiologist does not seem to be concerned--I had to push for BP medication which I take once per day and my BP is still high. I am not doing what I'm supposed to with diet and exercise and hope to soon. Anyone else have high BP with a pacemaker and how do you handle it?

I was taking my BP six times a day and it was all over the place up to 197/101 and down to 118/72. In conversations with some doc friends and my primary care doc, the way you take your BP is important. I now sit quietly for 3-4 minutes with resting my back against a chair as using back muscles can elevate BP. When doing this, it has been averaging 123/78. It will normally vary greatly throught the day depending on activity. A conclusion is that if you try to regulate the BP too closely, then you have too much of a risk of low BP when at rest and become dizzy etc. Many people take BP laying down, then sitting up, then standing to give an overall activity reading. Hope that gives another point of view.

Start your diet and exercise program TODAY....not soon. Make a decision to do it now. You have to be an active partner in your health. Try Weight Watchers if you need that kind f support.
Pills are not magic. Stay away from salt. Read labels....only low sodium and sugar. There are so many spices you can use for flavor. If you change your mindset, once you get going it's not hard to do. Natural foods, fresh fruits and vegetables. There are so many dishes you could make....google them....be creative and have fun!
It's a lifestyle change. There are so many benefits to exercise, including better blood pressure not to mention weight loss. Only YOU can do this....start today. Yes it can be a challenge in the beginning.....I love a challenge.....that's how I handled it.

But I think it will make me feel a lot better. My stamina to walk is already better, even right after surgery. They had me walk all around the floor before they would release me. I did so without being exhausted and winded the way I had been.
