My pacemaker sets off the alarm at a store I go into. I though this was a thing of the past as my pacer is only a few months old..

store settings
by Tracey_E - 2016-10-02 09:42:24
I've set store alarms off maybe half a dozen times in 20 years. It doesn't hurt us, just don't linger. It's their settings, not you, and I'd be willing to bet they have it go off all day long over stupid things.

I've set them off too in about 4 different stores and some more than once.
Like Tracey said, just walk through and don't linger by them.

It is interesting.....................in 30 years I have "Never" set-off an alarm. Stores, Airports, Courthouse, etc.
Looks

It's more fun with the looks you get when you are on the way IN to a store. People have a puzzled look on their face.
On the way out....not fun....you have to stop and explain to the store clerk or security why the alarm sounded.

With all electronic devices, there are sensitivity settings. Just the nature of the beasts! Even our digital PM's have sensitivuty settings - like capture thresholds. The store pylons that sense anti-theft tags also have them. So...WHY should we be amazed whern some of have their PM/ICD trigger one of them? Why should we be surprised when our PM/ICD senses one of them?
I recall a time last yr when GH had someone challenge her veracity over her statement that she trriggered store alarms. People's sensory devices are no different. I remember very well a friend who had no sense of smell when it came to coffee or tea. His sense of taste for the stuf likewise suffered. He could ONLY tell the difference by looking at it. When I was a teen back in the early 1950's & TV sets had "Flyback Transformers" that operated in the 15,000 Cycle range, I could hear them & it hurt my ears - no one else in my family could, so they thought I was nuts or a freak!
Do you eat asparagus & then smell it in urine? If do, you are in a group of people w/ a differernt genetic make up. OTOH, there are about the same percentage of people who do not create the odor - so that litttle conundrum is in the same category (scientifically) as making a security pylon react to a PM/ICD.
Here's the REAL rant! I cannot make some laptop touch pads or touch screens react. My fingers just will not make them do what they are supposed to do - move the cursor or the window! As the back-up receptionist for our MD daughter, I catch no end of flak over this problem - usually criticism because I'm doing something wrong. On two occasions, it has come down to a really contentious shouting match.
Our 22 Yr old receptionist has tiny little fingers & whips that cursor around like an artist. I was trying to get her to lead me through a registration process I had to learn & she kept reaching in, shoving my finger out of the way & whipping the cursor around to the right buttons to push. I wasn't learning a thing. In a fit of disgust, I finally told her if she did it again I'd smash her scrawny little fingers right where they sat on the pad. She got the point (pun intended).
It has been decided that we will buy a mouse for me to use.
Anyone else have that problem w/ touch pads? Or am I a wierdo? (Ian, you are not permittd to answer that question!)

I am prety sure it was me. When we walked in it went off and my wife kidded me saying my pacer set it off. Then on the way out you have to stop and someone verifies your receipt and it went off. The lady jokingly said "why are you beeping" and we told her I have a pacer.

Why buy a mouse? I'm sure you could find a couple if you get down on the floor and put some cheese in a few corners. And then you could name him.
As for your last question.....I'll leave that for Ian.

Why me ?

Grateful Heart Why have you nominated ME to decide whether Don is a weirdo or not ?
All I know is that he always wears a colander on his head together with other strange hats . I now learn that he wants a pet mouse.
What makes it difficult for me is that I have never been to Georgia. If everybody in Georgia wears a colander and keeps mice then Don is not a weirdo and his behaviour is " normal for Georgia ".
However, if he is the only one , well then I can only arrive at one conclusion. ...............

Ok, I'll take it.....

Whatever he is....he's ours and we couldn't do without him on this site.
Funny hats, pet mice and all. :)

I would imagine it has more to do with how old the technology is in the store scanners, rather than your implant. Are you sure it was actually you and not coincidence?
