Hi all. Quick ? How bad is caffeine in moderation for me? I don't really miss coffee, but I do miss coke, very much. It's like an addiction with me. I have some from time to time and each time I tell myself - no more, as I feel that familiar fluttering, and I always seem to cough when it happens. Lasts for a little while and it is not pleasant, then every thing goes back to normal. Feedback anyone? P.s. Caffeine free soda - Yuck!

So what, you going to continue sucking down caffeine, struggling with palpitations, and asking us every couple weeks if you should quit ? Go ahead guzzle all you want I'm not your mommy, I don't care. Perhaps you would be kind enough to will me your golf clubs, you won't be needing them where you are rushing off to...
Thanks for the feedback to two out of three

Thanks! Yes, I really do know the answer. It's just so hard to break an addiction. But I am working on it. Cabg patch, you don't have to be mean!!! This site is for venting as well as getting feedback. Sometimes just saying it out loud or writing it, as in this case, helps. Us newbies are also trying to get used to the fact that we have a pacemaker! I wish I could see you face to face. Boy, I would tell you what I think of your stupid remarks. You know what I would like to do with my golf clubs---if I had any! You really should learn how to help a person feel better! BTW, I'm a psychotherapist, very successful. So busy that I have a wait list. What is your profession?
Thanks for the feedback?

PM,
it may be understandable that you are still suffering from the effects of having learnt of your vulnerability, but perhaps you should consider this.
If a person takes the time to reply to your concern, it may be they are trying to help you come to terms with your new reality.
Sometimes a light hearted reply can be misunderstood, perhaps it was not meant to be offensive. I think your suggestion of learning how to help a person is a good one.
This not meant as a criticism, it's just my suggestion!

Kicked caffeine

Hello PM. I have had a pacemaker for just under 4 weeks, and I haven't had any desire whatsoever for coffee. I wake up with a pulse of 60 and that's enough of a boost for me. I do still crave sugar, and make an effort to satisfy those cravings mostly with fresh fruit and a "healthy" breakfast cereal. I think the pacemaker meets us halfway and the rest is our choice.
P.S. I agree with your criticism of Cabg Patch; this is obviously an extremely unhappy person.

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
I think you know the answer

It really is best to have a regular heart rhythm all of the time because if you haven't, you increase your chances of having a stroke and heart failure .
Although many people go through life with occasional spells of arrythmia if you know what is bad for YOU it seems to be crazy not to avoid it.
Different people have different trigger factors , yours seems to be caffeine; with other people it may be alcohol, chocolate or certain drugs . You are lucky , you have identified the trigger factor,
Which would you miss most, coke or the possible life-threatening risks associated with your " familiar fluttering " ? It is your decision but it seems to be a no-brainer to me ; give up coke !!
Best of luck
Ian
