My daughter talked me into signing up for a half marathon with her in Feb, yikes!!!! Disney Princess so it should be lots of fun, but yikes. I just did my first 5K a couple of years ago and I am soooo not a runner. We have done other races since but nothing longer so we will do a 10k in Dec.

Hi Tracey!
A half marathon is absolutely doable for almost everyone, with some preparation. And in your case the pacemaker is no problem at all since you have no sinus node issues and therefore don't need the rate response sensor.
I did my first half marathon in the beginning of April, started training for it in January. Don't start earlier than 3-4 months before the event. I usually did two 5K's during the week, and then one longer run on the weekend. I trained up to 16 km which I ran about three times. Next time I'd definitely train up to 18 or 19, because adding another 5 km to what I was used to was really tough during the race. If you can do a 10K in December, you'll be fine with the half marathon in February.
Good luck & most importantly enjoy!

Jane, yes dressing up is a big thing at the Disney races. We are discussing it. We like the idea of a mother/daughter theme but most of the Disney princesses either have no mother or a witch of a mother, and that doesn't work for me lol.
Inga, I run 1-2 miles 5 days a week as part of Crossfit so I can do a 5K now without any extra training. I'm slow as a turtle, but I can do it :) I'll step it up this fall to get ready for the 10k, after that I was going to find a formal training schedule for the half. I have some minor sinus issues in addition to the av block and do use rate response. This newest one seems to be more sensitive and it's great working out. I get a little breathless going up the stairs and other small exertions, but it gets me up and keeps me there when I work out so I'll live with the annoyance the rest of the day. When do you hear about Global Heros?

Good for you Tracey...
Know what I've always wondered about running marathons? Why

Why? Cool swag and pictures to annoy your friends on social media, of course.

Go for it, you are not daft and will train properly for it. It will be a good test for your new PM and a real boost for us women of a certain age, lol!
Just think you will be able to tuck into your Christmas dinner without a care in the world cause it will fuel for your training.!!
Are you having to dress up?
Cheers, Jane x
